The Importance of “Word-of-Mouth” in a Social World


Just the other day, I was wondering about where I should eat lunch. Rather than decide on my own, I decided to post the question on my Facebook page. I was overwhelmed with responses and recommendations from my friends as to where I should go. Based on these responses I chose a new restaurant I hadn’t tried before and loved it! I thanked my friends for their suggestions and then shared the great experience that I had at the new restaurant.

The above story is just a quick example as to how word-of mouth (WOM) referrals have changed due to the social media. In the past I would have had to ask my friends face-to-face or over the phone for suggestions, but now with social media it is easier than ever to get instant recommendations from a multitude of people.
